The Homeless We Serve

  • There are at least 57,400 homeless men, women, and children in Florida on any given day.
  • This number is up 9% from the last count.
  • There are at least 5,000 homeless men, women, and children in Broward County on any given day.
  • Of these numbers about 33% are families, 46% are single men, and 21% are single women.
  • 29% are children and youth ages 18 and younger, this is an increase over last year.
  • Over 50% of homeless people are employed, but cannot afford housing on the wages they earn.

Support what the Coalition is doing to end homelessness

The Coalition to End Homelessness has been recognized both nationally (by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Alliance to End Homelessness) and statewide for providing innovative programs that effectively assist even the most chronic homeless people not only off the street, but on the road to self-sufficiency.

We Build Bridges:

  • Between the Homeless and Service Providers - The Coalition operates the 524-BEDS line and the Outreach Team, which provides the homeless with access to the shelters throughout Broward County. The HIP Dollar program provides the homeless with information about the available services and transportation to them. The Coalition creates the Homeless Services Directory, Homeless Survival Guide, and numerous informational documents for the homeless, social service agencies and others.
  • Between Service Provider Agencies - The Coalition hosts regular meetings, has four standing committees with numerous sub-committees, and provides information through our broadcast FAX service to promote the collaboration of the agencies for the benefit of homeless clients.
  • Between the Faith Community, Law Enforcement, Service Provider Agencies, and the Homeless - The Coalition hosts “Homelessness 101 & 202" classes to train law enforcement and other groups about available resources and alternatives to helping those in need.
