The President of CTEH, Gary Eyen
shares some optimism!!

If ever there were a time to be optimistic about our future, now is the time. Why optimistic? Why now? In whatever endeavor or circumstance you're describing, or experiencing, what is the single most important element that stirs optimism? You guessed it - the people involved. After careful observation, and study, I'm here to tell you that the service providers, and people in this community committed to serving those in need are a source of inspiration and hope for us all. Being hopeful doesn't mean we're naive. There is no escaping the pain being suffered by so many due to poverty and its countless consequences. Hope lies in the indomitable spirits of those serving as well as those being served.

Dr. Martin Luther King said this in a 1957 sermon:
" An individual has not begun to live until he can rise above the horizons of his particular individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. Every person must decide, at some point, whether they will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness. This is the judgment. Life's most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?"

An Inspirational Story for all.....

I was traveling home on a Tuesday afternoon when I heard a loud noise, and an awful rumbling sound …I quickly realized that I had a flat tire. I pulled over to a nearby gas station, and discovered that I also had a second tire with a nail lodged in it. To make matters worse I had left my wallet home, thus leaving me without any available money for a repair. And If that wasn't bad enough, I didn’t have a spare tire. As I wondered around my car trying to figure out how I was going to resolve my dilemma I noticed several people staring, however no one offered assistance. After a short time a homeless man came over to me, and asked if I needed any help….I was surprised that he was the only one considerate, and good hearted enough to volunteer help. He even thought to suggest filling the tire with air which would enable me to drive home to get my wallet. Unfortunately I didn't even have change for the air pump. He then generously gave me 4 quarters to put in the air machine. I asked if there was anything I could do for him as I coincidentally happen to work for"the Coalition to End Homelessness". He smiled kindly and said, " just remember today as the time a homeless person gave back to you." He then walked away, and I successfully made it to the tire shop where I met my wife, and we repaired both tires.

His gift of 4 quarters may seem small to some, however the unselfish spirit he displayed, and the kindness he posessed, were a huge inspiration to me. While other individuals with so much more to give simply continued to walk by, ignoring my unfortunate circumstances, he chose instead to act selflessly and reach out to me.

I truly hope this inspires all who read it!
